On October 31, 2015, we investigated what’s notoriously known as the “Enfield Demon House.”
The house was featured on Animal Planet’s The Haunted and SyFy’s The Haunted Collector. Jay and Elke Yaple had been plagued by an evil entity since purchasing the home in 2006. The house is over 200 years old and has a morbid history of 25+ deaths, ranging from homicides and suicides to accidents and illness. Over the years, they brought in countless paranormal investigation teams, mediums, priests, shamans, and even a bishop before finally ridding the home of the demonic presence.
The goal of our investigation was simple: determine once and for all whether that presence was still there.
Enfield Demon House Investigation in Connecticut: Initial Impressions
The house sits on a side street in Enfield, Connecticut. Originally a duplex, it was later converted into a single-family home, though much of it remains vacant and is currently used for storage. On the surface, it looks and feels like a normal home—until you walk inside.
The moment you step through the door, the energy hits you. Throughout the night, as I moved from room to room, I encountered drastic temperature shifts. The air almost felt “alive.” Some rooms were so cold they gave me goosebumps instantly, while others left me feeling lightheaded and dizzy.
This Enfield Demon House investigation in Connecticut quickly made it clear that the environment itself was a major factor in the case.
Anyway, onto the investigation…
Investigation Setup
I arrived around 8:30 PM. We set up base camp in the dining room and confirmed that all of our equipment was functional. Our gear included the usual: flashlights, EMF meters, spirit boxes, audio/video recorders, cameras, walkie-talkies, and—of course—extra batteries.
There were ten of us total, so we split into two groups of five, each led by a more experienced investigator. Once we gathered our equipment and shut off the lights, we began our investigation.
Room-by-Room Investigation
Master Bedroom
The first room we visited was the master bedroom on the second floor. My group and I sat on the floor in complete darkness and began an EVP (electronic voice phenomenon) session. The room was cold, and we could tell there was a presence, but it might have been too early for the energy to make itself known.
I have not yet reviewed the evidence from this session, but it didn’t seem like we captured anything significant, so we moved upstairs to the third floor—where most of the reported activity took place.
Attic
This is where things escalated.
The attic is divided into two sections: the vacant side on the left and the daughter’s bedroom on the right. Between them are two staircases—one leading back down to the master bedroom and another leading to the second-floor vacant side.
We started on the vacant side.
The air in this room was extremely cold—cold enough to give me goosebumps immediately. There was a strong energy present, and it did not feel welcoming. We began using the spirit box, sweeping FM channels in reverse, and started asking questions.
We received intelligent responses almost immediately.
The first spirit we made contact with was a woman named Elizabeth Arnott. To my knowledge, she lived in the house in 1919 and died after falling down the steps. When asked where she died, the response came through clearly:
“Stairs.”
As we continued questioning her, the communication began to fade. A male voice started cutting in—stronger, more forceful. This voice was identified as Charles Comparetto.
Attic – Daughter’s Room
Charles was a prominent figure associated with the home in the 1920s. His history is one of the darker ones tied to the house. He had an affair with a neighbor, became jealous of her husband—who had once been a close friend—and ultimately snapped. He murdered the couple before returning home and taking his own life. His bloodstain reportedly remains on the floor to this day.
His presence felt dominant.
We were receiving repeated commands telling us to “get out,” and the spirit box activity intensified significantly.
We moved into the daughter’s room on the right side of the attic. The same cold conditions applied here. We heard movement—footsteps above us, despite there being nothing above but the roof. The other group was in the basement at the time, so it wasn’t them.
We continued to make contact with Charles and Elizabeth, and children’s voices also came through intermittently.
This is where we attempted the flashlight method. We turned the flashlight on, placed it on the ground, and asked the spirits to communicate by turning it off. After several attempts, we received multiple on/off responses, which were captured on video.
Attic – Staircase Incident
At this point, the atmosphere felt heavy. The air was dry, and the temperature continued to fluctuate. Looking down the secondary staircase, you could see only items piled at the bottom. To the left was a door leading to the vacant second floor.
Chris and another investigator went partway down while the rest of us stayed at the top.
I continued running the spirit box. It became clear that whatever we were communicating with did not like Chris or me. Our names were repeated multiple times throughout the session.
The tone shifted—more aggressive, more direct.
One of our investigators was called a “stupid whore,” and I was called a “bitch.” When asked why it didn’t want us near the staircase, the response was consistent:
“Get out.”
I pressed further and asked what happened there.
The response: “Rape.”
Shortly after, we began hearing growls—not from the spirit box, but in the room itself.
Then came a loud bang.
The door at the bottom of the stairs slammed shut. Chris attempted to open it but reported that it felt like it was pushed closed against him. He ran back up the stairs, visibly shaken—something that is highly uncharacteristic for him.
At that point, we called for a break and stepped outside.
Basement
After regrouping, we switched areas with the other team and took the basement.
The basement was largely a dead zone. It was dark and unsettling, but there was little to no activity. The only notable observation was a strong smell of gas that would come and go.
However, while we were in the basement, the attic team reported that my name was being repeated. When asked, “Who do you hate?” the response referenced the basement—where I was at the time.
Kitchen, Living Room, and Computer Room
Each of these areas had its own history of traumatic events. The kitchen, for example, was the site of a fatal stove fire in which two women died.
We heard movement at times—footsteps or shifting sounds—but nothing overtly aggressive. The energy felt off, but not nearly as intense as the attic.
Vacant Side
The vacant side of the house felt particularly unsettling. We formed a circle and attempted another EVP session. The spirit box picked up minor activity.
At one point, in response to the question, “Is there anything here you don’t want us to find?” the spirit box played what sounded like song lyrics:
“I’m afraid you’ll find out…”
Around the same time, Chris’s camera shut down completely despite having fresh batteries. It felt like something was in the room with us—watching—but no direct interaction occurred.
Solo Sessions – Are We Alone?
Back at base camp, our lead investigator had each of us conduct a 10-minute solo session. We each chose a location and brought monitoring equipment so the rest of the team could observe remotely.
Across the board, investigators reported:
Orb activity
Spirit box responses
Repeated references to specific individuals
I returned to the basement.
For the first five minutes, there was nothing. Then activity gradually increased. The entire time, I felt something just over my left shoulder. Nothing was visible, but the sensation was persistent.
It was easily the longest ten minutes of the night.
Final Session (2 AM – 4 AM)
By this point, we were exhausted. Activity had slowed, but we had one more idea. Since the entity reacted strongly near the staircase earlier, we decided to approach it from the opposite side.
I initiated the final spirit box session and began provoking Charles directly.
The responses came quickly—mostly insults. I was called a “pussy” multiple times. I pushed back, challenging it to show itself.
Nothing happened.
Despite the verbal engagement, there was no physical manifestation. Activity remained high until around 4 AM, then gradually faded.
Conclusion
We packed up and left shortly after.
From our experience, one thing is clear: The house is still active.
However, the demonic presence that once defined it appears to be gone. What remains feels more residual—fragmented energy, with some neutral and possibly even protective elements. Charles Comparetto, in particular, seems less like a controlling force and more like a tortured presence unable to move on.
By the end of the investigation, the house felt… normal.
Not empty—but no longer oppressive.
We’re still reviewing the evidence, but this case stands out—not just because of its history, but because of how it felt.
We can’t explain everything we experienced. But we know something was there.
And like every case, our job remains the same:
Find the truth—whatever that truth may be.
Update (2019 Follow-Up)
We returned to the property in 2019 briefly to talk with the homeowners and get a feel for the environment, and determine whether any changes had occurred since the initial investigation.
During that visit, there were no clear psychic impressions of any ongoing malevolent or oppressive entities within the home. The atmosphere, while still heavy in certain areas, lacked the aggressive and reactive qualities that were present during our original investigation.
What remained, however, were what can best be described as residual energetic footprints — imprints left behind from the extensive history of trauma associated with the property.
In other words, the house no longer felt under active influence — but it had not entirely let go of its past.
